The 13th-ranked Cardinal softball team began the Mississippi/Alabama swing of their schedule Thursday afternoon with a doubleheader split with Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS.

The Cardinals took a 5-2 eight-inning win in the first game and dropped a 4-3 decision in the second.

Action shifts from Mississippi to Alabama today in the Sun Chief Classic. The Cardinals play Shelton State at 9 a.m. and Snead College at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, they play No. 9 Wallace-Dothan at 9 a.m. and Georgia Highlands at 11:15 a.m.

In Game 1 against Hinds, Kimane Rogron slapped a 2-run homer in the top of the sixth to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead. After  Hinds answered with a run in the bottom of the inning and a scoreless seventh, the Cardinals scored three in the top of the eighth.

Rogron went 3-for-4 at the plated, driving in two runs and scoring two.

Rosaury Perez also had multiple hits with two, including a double. Perez also picked up the win in the circle, pitching in relief after seven strong innings by Angela Ramirez.

In the second game, the Cardinals saw Hinds make a 4-run third inning stand up for the win.

The Cardinals outhit Hinds, 9-6, led by Perez (2-for-4).

Getting one hit each were Taylor Scala, McKayla Figueroa, Liz Feld, Shelbie Fickling, Jalissa Alicea, Reilly Lawrence and Morgan Scala.

Perez and and Alicea combined for eight strikeouts (four each) in the circle.

The twinbill split left the Cardinals 6-1 on the season.
